Why This ?

Bernard-Shaw-ILN-1911-original_0.jpg

Some one must be wrong!

As George B. Shaw said, "There is only one religious thought but there are a hundred versions of it". Actually, there are probably well over 14,000 different religions on this Earth. There are not 14,000 different Gods flying around the Universe. I think there is one Existence, viewed in many diverse ways, with different titles and attributes. Do we really need such diversity? Is one of the 14,000 right and the other 13,999 wrong?

Stupidity

About 4.5 percent of 20th century humans died as a result of wars. That's over 180,000,000 people. There were 19 major armed conflicts raging in 18 locations worldwide in 2003. In that year world military spending grew by 11 percent. This was a huge rate of increase, especially since in 2002 the increase was 6.5 percent. In those two years, world military spending increased by 18 percent in real terms, to reach $956 billion in 2003. That would have fed a lot of hungry people. Does this make sense?

Insanity

The old religions have not prevented this insanity. In fact some may now be encouraging it. "I'm fighting so I can die a martyr and go to heaven to meet God. Issue a call to the young generation to get ready for the holy war"- as attributed to Osama Ben Laden. Future mankind had better be more peaceful and virtuous than we are and perhaps a little less 'religious'. Don't you think that it is about time to consolidate and stop the nonsense?

neo-Pantheism, a possible answer

Our survival may depend on it. I am offering a possibility for a logical approach to the problem. A more secular religious/philosophical concept for living is needed because the old ones have not gotten the job done. The paradigm of neo-Pantheism that I propose may not be the final answer, but it is a start in the right direction. "Perhaps it is better to be insane and happy, than sane and unhappy. But it is the best of all to be sane and happy. Whether our descendants can achieve that goal will be the greatest challenge of the future. Indeed, it may well decide whether we have a future," - Arthur C. Clarke.

Philosopher William James

"The world we see that seems so insane is the result of a belief system that is not working. To perceive the world differently, we must be willing to change our belief system, let the past slip away, expand our sense of now, and dissolve the fear in our minds." We need a better framework for life on this planet than what we have had - a paradigm that is more rational, more moral, directed at improving human survival and wellbeing. Does that make sense? If so read some more.

What is a paradigm?

A paradigm is a philosophical, religious or theoretical framework of any kind used as the basis for understanding.
